First Day

It was a big day around here today- a big day indeed. The girls all went off to school this morning! When they came home this afternoon we debriefed. A lot. Here's just a tiny snip-it of what they had to say about their first day.

First day of school- emma

Emma: "I chose nachos for lunch- they were amazing." And when met with my upraised eyebrows and a bit of silence from me she said, "I know Mom, but I just can't help myself when it comes to that melty cheese." Ahem, I'm hoping the money that I put on her hot lunch account will run out shortly and we can go back to turkey sandwiches from home.

She was a pro at opening her locker and even helped a few of the strugglers nearby with theirs. I'll admit I was a little nervous for her-- but it sounds like she navigated the hallways, lunch room, PE class, and bus ride home with a smile and new "best friends" in tow. Of course she did. Why did I ever doubt?

First day of school- hannah

Hannah: "Mom, I really should've been doing some math and reading over the summer. My brain was like totally slouchy. I'm really going to need to get my head into 'the system'"

She also told me that she received several compliments on her "couch shorts" as she calls them (they are  suede- we do not own any suede furniture?).

Hannah warned her younger sister never to bring cheetos to school for snack. They are supposedly banned. That would be tragic...if we ever actually bought cheetos.

First day of school- laurel

Laurel: "Mom, two people farted at school today!" She was shocked that anyone could allow that to happen. I think she almost died of embarrassment over the two apparently loud incidents. She said that she immediately made an announcement where she informed everyone nearby, "THAT WAS NOT ME!"

She also talked a lot about learning to walk in straight lines, how One should never stand near the edge of the playground and throw pine-cones at passing cars, and how she was dying to take her shoes off and be barefoot by 9am.

Laurel is already working on some good ol' monkey bar callouses, and losing her other front tooth. (We had at least an hour of pre-bedtime drama about letting Dad pull that dangling thing out. Unsuccessful.)

And me? Well I enjoyed an hour at the gym, some playtime with Ian, a quiet/productive afternoon, and the beginnings of a brand new routine. I think this is going to be good.

biker boys

Look at the handsome boys who pulled in to my driveway last night!

Biker boys and me

My Grandpa, my Dad, my uncle Mike, and my uncle Dave.

These guys have been on a 10 day motorcycle trip up through Canada. Isn't my grandpa cute? He totally hangs with his sons. (He's 78 and can ride a full day AFTER camping out in a tent the night previous.... for 10 days!!)

They cruised into Washington state yesterday and decided to layover for the night at our house before riding the rest of the way home today.

Biker brothers

They were a rough bunch needing some home-cooked food, soft chairs, and showers.

I'm good for that and was happy to have them.

Biker helmet

Of course I wanted to take a ride. Motorcycles have been a part of my life since I was a small child, but it has been a while...

Biker boots

Cowgirl boots were the best I could do. My dad drove me up through the wheat fields to the top of the cliffs behind our house. The sun was just setting. Gorgeous. We even passed another motorcycle and I got to do the two-finger wave. Killer.

And then... he let me drive down.

Biker chick

Um no. Just kidding. Not in this life. But it looks good right?

Safe travels boys.
